RmDriv
Release 2.0
by
Eric DeVolder
11/23/91
Welcome! You have just obtained the second release of RmDriv, a simple
program that you can use to logically disable ANY drive on your system.
The syntax for RmDriv is as follows:
rmdriv [-de] d:
where d: is any drive (A-Z) that you wish to disable, and the switches,
-d or -e, are used to force disabling or enabling of a logical DOS drive.
If no option is specified, RmDriv will toggle between enabling and
disabling the drive.
Always use caution when disabling the boot drive, especially when it is
C:. DOS often looks for COMMAND.COM on the boot drive, and if this drive
is disabled, DOS will halt the system.
You can also use RmDriv to enable any drive (A-Z). However, using RmDriv
to enable any drive that was previously invalid will produce undesired
effects when trying to access the drive. In addition, RmDriv will enable
any drive as if it were a physical drive. Therefore, if you disable a
network drive, you can not enable the drive again using RmDriv. To enable
any physical drive, simply enter the command above with the -e option.
Changes in release 2.0 over 1.0 are added support for PC/MS-DOS 5.0, and
also the ability to force disable/enable of a logical DOS drive. RmDriv
is not a Terminate and Stay Resident (TSR) program. RmDriv will only
run under PC/MS-DOS 3.3 or above. RmDriv has been tested under
PC/MS-DOS 3.3, 4.01, and 5.0. This program does not depend on your
hardware configuration whatsoever, it depends only on DOS, which means
that RmDriv will in no way harm your disks or their contents.
Attention Network Administrators: Your mileage will vary on this program.
Some networks will remap DOS drives to the extent that this program is
useless. In general, I have found that disabling a drive before the
network is invoked will nearly always result in that drive being disabled,
with RmDriv not being able to re-enable it once the network is installed.
This occurrence, though, is dependent upon your network server. I have
had success running this program under newer releases of Novell.
